NFL fans are once again debating whether NBC should replace Carrie Underwood as the voice of Sunday Night Football.

Underwood has opened the NBC broadcast for years, and she returned Sunday night as the New York Giants hosted the Dallas Cowboys. The Giants won 28-20 in an impressive Week 1 performance, but some viewers were more focused on the familiar opening song.

One fan took to social media and wrote, “Can we p l e a s e retire Carrie Underwood from Sunday night football.” The post had received more than 300,000 views by Sunday evening.
While Underwood remains a favorite among many viewers, some fans believe the long-running opening has started to feel repetitive.
NFL fans want a new voice
The reaction online was split, with some fans continuing to support Underwood while others called for NBC to make a change.
“100% time to go,” one fan wrote.

“PLEASE. Should’ve been Kelly Clarkson,” another viewer said.
Someone else suggested bringing back a familiar voice, writing, “Bring Faith Hill back or something.”
Another fan had a different idea: “Shaboozey doing all the other football songs. Give it to him lol.”

The criticism continued, with one viewer saying, “Her SNF song is horrible and has the complete opposite effect of getting pumped up for a game.”
Another fan complained, “The song gets more and more unseasoned every year.”
For now, NBC is sticking with Underwood for the 2026 season. However, the growing debate could give the network something to consider when planning the 2027 season.
